Dispenser Meters
Are you prepared for the new Temperature Compensation Requirements for Dispenser Meters?
GEC has you covered! Whether you are just learning the basics or are ready for an upgrade, read below to see how GEC can help.
What is Temperature Compensation?
Temperature compensation adjusts sensors to work well at different temperatures, preventing changes in temperature from affecting their accuracy. In flow measurement, for example, where fluid density affects readings, compensation corrects the output signal based on fluid temperature changes to ensure accurate measurements. This helps maintain accuracy and reliability across different conditions, making it essential for accurate flow measurements.
What are the New Requirements?
The upcoming changes, as explained by the NFPA, include:
2.21.2. Metered Sales by Liquid Volume. All metered sales by liquid volume shall be accomplished using metering systems as follows:
- Sales using metering systems with a maximum rated capacity greater than 20 gal/min shall be accomplished using a metering system that automatically compensates for the effects of temperature.
- Sales using metering systems with a maximum rated capacity equal to or less than 20 gal/min that were placed into service after January 1, 2026 shall be accomplished by use of a metering system that automatically compensates for the effects of temperature.
- Effective January 1, 2030, all metered sales (through all capacities of metering devices, regardless of installation and service date) shall be accomplished by use of a metering system that automatically compensates for temperature.

Upgrading your current dispenser:
- Upgrade your existing dispenser meter with temperature control kits or zero setback interlocks.
- Installing a temperature-comp meter (part #400051-002) to your existing equipment.
- Using an upgrade kit (part #101080-005) to add to an existing meter.
